The Oba of Benin is the traditional ruler and the custodian of the culture of the Edo people. He wears a simple flowing gown with a cape and a plain cap covered in woven red coral beads.
His wives also tie beautiful wrappers made from a variety of fabrics, wear the Ewu-ivie, a beaded cape or blouse and adorn their necks with coral beads known as Ivie-uru and the Ivie-obo on their hands along with beaded earrings.
